How Do Diuretics Work?: Diuretics signal the kidneys to increase the excretion of sodium (salt) and water from the body. This decreases your blood pressure by reducing the volume of blood in your arteries. Diuretics are commonly prescribed and have been in use for a long time.
Who May be Prescribed Diuretics: If you have high blood pressure and tend to retain fluid. If you tend to have swollen feet or hands. If you are in congestive heart failure.
What are Common Diuretics: Diuretics can be either potassium sparing or potassium depleting. One of the most commonly prescribed diuretic pills is called hydrochlorothiazide. It is also called HydroDiuril® or Microzide®. This is a potassium sparing diuretic. Other common diuretics are acetazolamide or Diamox® and furosemide or Lasix® a loop diuretic. These are both potassium depleting diuretics.
Cautions: Patients allergic to sulfa may also be allergic to furosemide (Lasix). Potassium is a mineral that is very important for your heart, so your doctor will monitor your potassium levels. If you are taking potassium depleting diuretics you should increase the amount of potassium in your diet. Bananas are a rich source of potassium.
Side Effects: Side effects include increased frequency of urination; low blood pressure; reduced or elevated potassium levels; weakness; leg cramps; fatigue; longterm use may cause gout; those with diabetes may have increased blood sugar levels.

FertilAid for Women and Men are designed to promote reproductive wellness as part of a healthy lifestyle and diet regimen. For trying-to-conceive women, a healthy diet and lifestyle is particularly important, because healthy babies start before conception.
For both women and men, a “trying-to-conceive” lifestyle begins with a balanced diet, regular exercise (see your doctor regarding a safe exercise regimen), and avoiding unhealthful habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating “junk” foods (particularly processed foods rich in refined sugars). If you are overweight, consider consulting your doctor regarding a safe diet and exercise regimen that will support your trying-to-conceive efforts.
As you likely already know, eating a well-balanced diet while your are trying to conceive and through pregnancy is central to the health of a developing baby, as well as the the health of the mother-to-be. For dads-to-be, men can ensure optimum sperm health, sperm count, and sperm motility by decreasing or avoiding alcohol, not smoking, and eating a balanced diet. FertilAid for Men offers a potent antioxidant formula to supplement a healthful diet. Infertility issues strike men as frequently as women, so a healthy lifestyle is equally important for the dad-to-be.
For women, eating foods rich in antioxidants and folic acid is highly recommended, especially folic acid during preconception and early pregnancy. Foods containing these nutrients include broccoli and green leafy vegetables. Folic acid has been shown to reduce the chances of birth defects, and supplements specially formulated with folic acid are advised. (For trying to conceive women, FertilAid offers 600mcg folic acid.
Mineral deficiency may also be a concern, so eating foods that contain minerals like iron, zinc, and calcium are important. Eating a variety of healthful foods is the key. A balanced diet is important because different minerals and vitamins require the presence of each other for optimal intake. Try to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables to ensure sufficient intake of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. The “Just Right” formula of FertilAid for Women is designed to supplement a healthful diet (and avoids potentially excessive doses of certain vitamins and minerals that can be found in other multivitamin products).

Take it from someone that’s tried every method he could find. So far;
• The patch (so many times I lost count, as a matter of fact there are some sitting on my desk right now)
• Hypnosis (2 times)
• Acupressure
• Acupuncture (with and without the little burning and smoking sponges on the needles)
• Laser therapy
• The pill (Zyban/wellbutin)
And last but not least a Psychiatrist (I’m trying to kill myself slowly, I must be nuts) all to no avail, in other words, nothing worked, I would tell myself anything to keep smoking or to start again. Things like: I like it, most of what the non smoking camp says is vastly exaggerated, I’ll quit tomorrow, everyone dies of something, live well, eat right die anyway. Do any of these sound familiar? Of course they do if you are a smoker you have more than likely said one or more of these things to yourself a number of times.
The success rate for most of these things is EXTREMELY LOW, somewhere in the neighborhood of 15% in English that means that for every 100 people that use one of these methods to quit 85 of them start smoking again within a year.
One of the facts that you generally won’t hear is that almost all of the supporters of these methods for smoking cessation either work directly for, or are PAID CONSULTANTS for the companies that manufacture these products, so much for an un biased opinion.
First let me give you some insight, for nearly 40 years I smoked between 1 and 1 ½ packs of cigarettes each and every day, I do not smoke, but I will always be a smoker, so I can’t EVER have another Smoke without becoming an instant full time smoker again. it’s like the old statement 1 is too many and a thousand is not enough.

What is the cause of sleep apnea?
It occurs when a person experiences an interruption in breathing during sleep. Several things can be considered a cause though. Some people may experience a relaxing of the tongue and throat muscles during sleep, which will partially block the airway opening. The muscles at the base of the tongue and the uvula relax and cause the airway to become blocked. When the airway is blocked a persons breathing becomes difficult and noisy and in the case of sleep apnea can stop altogether. The uvula is the small fleshy piece of tissue hanging from the back of a person’s throat.
Obesity is also a sleep apnea cause. Overweight people can have excess amount of tissue in their airway thus causing it to narrow. The problem then is that the person continues to try to breathe normally but air cannot flow in or out of their nose or mouth. Since the person is sleeping, they do not know that they are now snoring heavily or experiencing periods of no breathing. The person will also frequently wake and frequently move from a deep sleep to a light sleep. Consumption of alcohol and sleeping pills will increase the possible frequency and the length of time of the breathing pauses for a person with sleep apnea.
When suffering from sleep apnea a person cannot breathe in oxygen and thus they are also unable to exhale carbon dioxide which then results in the individual receiving low levels of oxygen and higher levels of carbon dioxide in the their blood. These two events alert the brain to resume breathing and cause an arousal. The arousal is a signal that the brain sends to the upper airway muscles to open the airway. This opening of the airway causes the person to gasp or snort aloud. These frequent periods of waking really prevent the sleep apnea sufferer from getting a restful night sleep.
It is not clearly known whether sleep apnea causes other conditions such as high blood pressure but a study concluded that up to fifty percent of sufferers do have high blood pressure. However, these results certainly lead to the idea that this sleep disorder may cause high blood pressure. People with this type of sleep disorder quite often feel very sleepy during the day due to their interrupted sleep.
Sleep apnea can cause depression, irritability, sexual problems, learning and memory issues as well. A sufferers spouse is usually the first person that notices a problem. They may notice loud snoring and a struggle to breathe during the night.

How many times have you pushed and pulled your spouse, or your partner, to try to get them to stop snoring? Sleepless nights on the couch tossing, turning, and still hearing the steel logs sawing away in the other room, praying for a remedy for snoring. Most people who snore can find a remedy for snoring that works.
Don’t think you just have to accept the fact you snore or that there is no remedy for snoring. The key to finding a remedy for snoring is to find out what is causing you to snore. Snoring may be caused by allergies, tongue or jaw positioning, a blocked airways, or a deviated septum (nasal passage).
Treating allergies or sometimes even something as simple as using simple strips to keep your nasal passages open may cure your snoring. If home remedies or over the counter alternatives don’t work’there is another way to stop snoring.
A Medical Remedy For Snoring
While you may think it’s silly to go t a doctor because you’re snoring, it’s still the best way to find the cause and the remedy. Sometimes the remedy for snoring can be a simple as wearing a patch on your nose while you sleep, or simply sleeping on your side.
In other instances the remedy for snoring may be a bit more involved, maybe even surgery. Removing the tonsils or adenoids may be the remedy you need to stop snoring. Only a medical professional can determine the exact cause of snoring.
There are many valid reasons to get snoring cured. Snoring results in interrupted sleep, poor rest, and awakening still feeling tired. Daily energy levels suffer, thus your daily activities suffer’not to mention how it affects others annoyed by your snoring.
Once the reason for your snoring is identified, you then can begin the process to eliminate the problem. Don’t go through years of poor sleep, poor breathing habits at night, and the frustration of others hearing you snore.

Many people want to raise their metabolism because they think it will help them to lose weight or at least stabilize their weight. This is not completely true but it will help, provided other conditions are right. This article will discuss how you might raise the metabolism and what this means in terms of weight loss.
Metabolism has many definitions but it is basically the processing of food by the body. When people mention raising the metabolism or making it faster they mean the speed at which it uses the calories that it takes from the food. Calories give us the energy that we need to live everyday. In terms of metabolism, the calories are used in maintaining all the functions and processes that go on inside the body to keep it functioning. This is known as the basal metabolic rate and can account for 70% of the body’s total energy needs. The rest of the calories are used for activities like working or doing exercise.
It is very hard to increase the basal rate but by increasing the percentage of muscle in the body, you will increase the basal metabolic rate or the metabolism as a whole. Muscle needs energy to be maintained and this means the body has to work harder. This means that you have to add more muscle to the body to raise your metabolism. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to push weights at a gym but do exercise that will strengthen the body as a whole.
Aerobic exercise will raise the metabolic rate during the exercise period and shortly there after but it will not have any long term affect. It will increase the heart rate and muscles that are used will burn calories during the exercise and after to recover.
It is thought that the metabolism has to work harder (burn more calories) to process protein rather than carbohydrates for example. This may be true because the structure of protein is more complex but it has to be eaten in the context of a balanced diet. The body needs a balance of carbohydrates, proteins and some fats to stay healthy. Eating on a regular basis, as in regular snacks and light main meals, increases the metabolism because it has to process the food. Again this has to be seen in the context that eating too many calories than your body needs will only make you gain weight.
